Pysanky with Natural Dyes

I started working primarily with natural dyes for pysanky about eight years ago. After teaching hundreds of pysanka workshops and exhausting many batches of aniline (chemical) dyes, I was tired of disposing of them, tired of using something carcinogenic and harmful to create objects of beauty and peace. I started to experiment with making dyes at home, and applied my learnings from ethnographic accounts, pysanky resources, natural dyemaking for textiles experience and my own relationship with the plants in my life, following intuition and inspiration, finding the joy of colour in a whole new way!
