About the Course
COUNTED EMBROIDERY
Counted embroidery follows the contours of the fabric, and as such generally makes geometric shapes, archaic and timeless symbols and patterns that can range from simple to complex, with layers of meaning and story. All embroidery is slow, and requires meticulous precision and devotion, and in turn gives the gift of time and space for meditation and prayer.
Join instructor Bozena Hrycyna of Kosa Kolektiv & Folk Camp Canada in an afternoon immersion into the world of hand embroidery, learning the basics of counted embroidery stitches.
The workshop is designed for beginners and will focus on learning best practices and gaining general familiarity with various materials and techniques used in embroidery. We will focus on cross stitch, back stitch and running stitch, working on linen and/or cotton aida cloth following a geometric pattern to begin. Your pieces can form a sampler/bookmark, or patch, or the basis of a little pouch, pillow or book cover (or be incorporated into a larger piece at a later time), depending on time and skill level.
